Department of English

   The department of English language was established in 1956 as a part of the faculty of Arts when Khartoum University college was given full university of London.As the UofK. is the oldest university in Sudan, the department of English is the oldest department in the university.With the exception of the faculty of education, the department of English was the only department established to teach for B.A. degree in English language.The department is located in the northern part of the main building of the faculty of Arts in the central campus of the university.

   In addition to teaching undergraduate courses, the department also run an M.A. program in English Language and literature. Moreover it offers courses to qualify non-basic degree honor students for English language and literature. Added to that, a number of students are annually registered to do their Ph.D.researches under the supervision of the staff of the department.

   The department also takes the responsibility of teaching English to students from the technological and developmental studies leading to an intermediate Diploma in English language.

 ELCA (English Language Courses For All), is another program in the department that offers ESP evening courses to meet the desire of applicants who need English for vocational purposes.
