Department of Russian Language

is one of 16 departments and centers that make up the Faculty of Arts at the University of Khartoum. The Department is located in the Northern part of the main building of the Faculty of Arts in the centre of the University. It was established in 1969. The dean of the college at that time was Professor Abdullah Tayeb. The Department offers the B. A. Program, M.A and Ph.D. Programs. The courses in the department aim to enable students to master the Russian language in reading, writing and speaking and introduce students to Russian literature and culture of Russian society and its customs. In addition, they train students to translate from Russian to Arabic and from Arabic to Russian. The department used to send the fifth-year students to study in Russia, an entire semester in one of the universities that have agreements with the department such as the Pushkin Institute in Moscow and the University of Pyatigorsk. The Department has 3 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 2 lecturers. Department has about 175 students in the B. A. Program distributed through the five years of studies as follows:

Department of English Language

Is one of 17 departments and centers that make up the  Faculty of Arts at the  University of Khartoum. In addition to the B. A. Program, the Department offers a postgraduate Diploma, M.A and Ph.D. Programs. It is also responsible for teaching the Intermediate Diploma Program offered by the College of Developmental and Technological Studies. Currently the Department takes charge of teaching English to the First Year students at the Faculty of Arts.  To link itself with the society, the Department initiated the English Language Courses for All (ELCA) program, which is a continuous Evening English Language courses that are run through out the year, and accept learners from all sectors of society regardless of their age or affiliation to U. of K. In the academic year 2008/2009 the Department has 285 students in the B. A. Program distributed through the five years of studies as follows:

The M. A. by Courses and Research program has started in 1994. To date (March 2009), more than 70 students have been awarded their degree. At the moment 30 students are enrolled in this program at different stages.   There are 10 Ph. D. candidates enrolled with the Department now.  The Department has 2 associate professors, 8 assistant professors, 6 lecturers, and 4 teaching assistants.
